Occasionally you have to stop and just step back and take a look at what the environmentalist are just trying to accomplish. I listen to their arguments about how the carbon output is causing the global warming and how if we just go green we will get all these jobs and at the same time reduce the carbon footprint.
Now when you look at the jobs picture alone I am just a bit miffed to where the jobs will come from. How the environment will truly be saved (do to the global warming that is) and what will be the environmental impact with these green power sources.
Let’s look at the environmental impact of the solar panel farms erected in the deserts. They build them in the desert because no one lives there and well what harm will it do there. Right! If a power plant that utilizes coal is putting carbon into the air, and it changes the atmosphere then I give you this statement of observation;
“I setup a temporary solar cooker. It is configured thusly, 4 to 6 mirrors positioned at angles to reflect the massive amounts of heat toward the object to be cooked. The key phrase here is object to be cooked. The Sun, reflecting off the mirrors is creating mass amounts of HEAT.
Now, in the middle of the desert we have decided to erect a solar farm made of solar collectors (mirrors, or Glass covered cells). Why? Because the Sun shines uninterrupted for over 300 plus days annually, no one lives near by, and who really cares about the people who do choose to live there? They must not be educated enough to live in the populated cities because they live in the middle of one of the hottest places on Earth or at least that is what the Environmental groups say.”
They want to build a 10 square mile Solar Field containing solar cells, which will be reflecting back into the atmosphere, and I would imagine there is going to be a lot of HEAT created. With this heat, and there must be an equal to or greater reaction of the same type. This I have learned over the years with any action there will be an equal reaction. What type of negative effect to the atmosphere do you think will happen with the heat generated from these solar cells when it occurs? As I look at the glare alone, (oh that’s right you won’t be able to see the glare because it is going to be so blasted bright that it will be impossible to look at) you have to think that there is heat being generated and it is going somewhere. Yes it will generate power but there will be reflections of some amounts. Now I realize that I am not a physicist, but I do have a degree in commonsense from the University of Forced Hard Knocks, you know that university, that is the one that when you slam your thumb with a hammer you learn not to do it again because you know that it is going to hurt. Which leads me to think Sun shines unto a cell but the Sun reflects back too, energy is absorbed by the cell but the light from the Sun is also reflected back which will also create its own heat.
The Desert temperatures in the Mohave Desert reach 165° because there is no shade. We install 100,000’s of manmade cells (mirrors) that are made less expensive in China or Brazil by laborers without any benefits or health insurance. If you think we have global warming with the current carbon footprint, wait until we see what the desert temperatures do when we start reflecting the Sun’s intense brightness and heat back into the atmosphere. As I stated, this is my observation (Mr. Gore should be able to understand this thought line since he came up with such a great piece of fiction in the first place) increasing the current desert temperature range of 130° to 165° to an unknown amount, (because right at this time the Scientists can only speculate what the effects will be of the heat generated) even if it only increases the temps 5 to 10% it is going to have an impact. The animals that do live in the desert will more then likely not be able too survive the temperature increases. They will have their little lives disrupted (just like the Caribou in the Artic along the pipeline argument) because of the invasion of construction vehicles and laborers invading their living space while erecting the solar farm. The birds aren’t going to be able to hunt any longer because of the tremendous amount of heat being reflected back into the atmosphere. The clouds, well if I recall my Freshman Earth Science class the heat and light being reflected will make the clouds non-existent. There won’t be any moisture in the atmosphere to have clouds. That would lead me to think the annual rainfall will be diminished to even less.
Now let’s move onto those beautiful Windmills/Towers. Yes, wind can and does have the ability to generate movement in a blade (if set at an appropriate angle) with as little as 2 or 3 miles an hour of velocity. These towers come in a verity styles and heights ranging from as short as 100 feet to as high as 1,000 feet and more. 1,000 feet you say. Yes over 1,000 feet. But who the heck cares? These towers will be in the middle of the desert and you know; nobody lives there. They won’t be seen by too many people. This is the typical Green Peace and Environmentalist theory isn’t it? There aren’t any Humpbacked Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins or small fish being forced to stay in one place. But what the heck it’s in the desert and it’s only the desert and we can put hundreds of them in one location to help reduce the cost.
With the Solar farms, once they a built and put on the power grid there is very little labor needed to do anything at the farm. It is all computerized. The computer program turns on the required electrical motors that drive the servos that move the mirrors in the proper movement of the Sun. The grid is operated by another computer which tells an electrical switch to force the power to follow the path that needs the power most, or whoever will pay the most money to purchase the power. Simplified? Yes, precise? Not exactly, but fairly close to what happens. The manpower needed to operate a solar farm is minimal. The major labor surely won’t be done in the United States unless the Congress mandates it. Then the price of the cells will be unsightly high because of the Unions wanting there piece of the action. The free market won’t be able to work because when the AFL-CIO needs there piece they just tell Congress that a law must be passed to make certain that if a non-union company gets the contract that they must pay the prevailing wage, no, wait! That law already exists, The Davis Bacon Act and in Arizona it is called the Little Davis Bacon Act. This is the law that takes true competition out of the business owner’s hands and places it into the Congress’s hands.
Now do you see how one little item which could become such a great environmental success at a real value turns into an overpriced boondoggle. The Environmental factions want everything as long as they can’t see (or won’t see) another problem like overheating the atmosphere with the reflections that their solar fields produce. And they surely could care less about the eventual costs because they have the current administration in their pocket to have the government pick up the costs. That is your money that they are spending and the unique thing here, we pay for the construction, we pay for the upkeep and then we get billed for the product that it produces and then we are taxed for that purchase. Ironically, we get taxed for tax dollars that we have paid to build, maintain and produce a product that we get charged to use.
Stop, Think, Listen and watch our government, it is up to us to keep them in check.
